South Carolina's win on Saturday made it nine times the Gamecocks have busted a Clemson winning streak of four games or more. Here's a look at how newspapers covered the previous eight.
I won’t spend time dwelling on the fact that there are so many four-game losing streaks in the history of the Palmetto Bowl. But there have been enough of them that the Clemson streak-buster is its own genre of South Carolina football coverage.
I thought it might be interesting to see how the streaks impacted the narratives around past South Carolina wins. So I’ve compiled some highlights of local newspaper coverage, going back to the eradication, in 1902, of the very first four-game losing streak to Clemson.1
